Principal Protection Engineer

This power systems consultancy has gone from strength to strength, they have grown from one office to three across NZ over the last couple of decades (Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland). With a full order book and two large distribution companies providing a substantial amount of work, the opportunity to work remotely as a Protection Engineer is very much a possibility (or a normal role in the office). This position can be tailored to your experience within protection and secondary systems, if you have expertise in distribution, generation or transmission it’s worthwhile applying. You will already be operating at a Senior or Principal level, working for a consultancy or an asset owner and keen for some change. What will you do and what do we need; As a Principal Engineer, you will provide technical expertise, be involved in the mentoring and development of other Engineers, overseeing substation protection and control design and parameterization as well as supporting the customer with technical presentation and training deliveries as required (some travel involved). You will need to assist the project team and the customer in the development of the design plans, specifications and philosophy documents to meet customer requirements, oversee testing and commissioning as required. In order to be considered for this opportunity you will ideally have experience with the following: Electronic Engineering qualification with specialisation in electrical power systems (generation, distribution, transmission grids) In-depth experience in Electrical Protection Systems (Relays, protection settings and tests), Control Systems (RTUs, SCADAs) and Communication Systems and Protocols (Ethernet, SDH, IEC 61850, DNP 3, Modbus, IEC104) In-depth experience in protection system design, coordination and commissioning for electrical plant that could be a part of a substation, wind farm, power station, industrial facilities.
