The advanced trainee will also provide services to an outreach service and will have an excellent opportunity to gain experience in managing a wide array of oncology conditions in the rural-regional setting with one-to-one interaction with a supervising consultant. It is a fantastic opportunity to oversee the inpatient unit, providing teaching and guidance, all overseen by a cadre of senior and very supportive consultants.In addition to the weekly journal club, the trainees will benefit from weekly teaching sessions by the consultant staff and protected time to attend the VMOTG Friday teaching sessions. The oncology unit at Ballarat works closely with all the clinical teams at Grampians Health, with regular Breast, Upper Gastrointestinal, Colorectal, Urological, Thoracic, Neuro-oncology and Head and Neck multidisciplinary team meetings. We also have fortnightly oncology-radiology and oncology-pathology meetings. We have an excellent and dynamic clinical trial unit; the trainee will have an excellent opportunity to learn about various aspects of clinical trials. The trainee will also have full support to conduct or participate in a research project.
