The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is the largest project of its kind in Australia and possibly the world. It is unique in that it is rehabilitating land in one of the world's most culturally and environmentally sensitive locations, surrounded by the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on the land of the Mirarr Traditional Owners, located 3 hours southeast of Darwin. In February 2022, ERA announced that the revised total cost of completing the Ranger mine rehabilitation was estimated to be approximately between $1.6bn and $2.2bn and will continue until 2028. ERA incurred an expenditure of $194m on rehabilitation activities in 2022.ERA is an independently managed and agile organisation. ERA has its own Board and has formed several strategic partnerships with industry experts, including Bechtel, a leading global engineering and construction firm, to assist in delivering a successful project outcome. A team of 220 employees and contractors is undertaking rehabilitation activities and supporting a feasibility study update.
